FSC®

Forest Stewardship Council®

The FSC® was established to promote ecologically appropriate, socially beneficial and economically profitable management of the world’s forests, thus ensuring that the needs of the present generation can be met without compromising the needs of future generations.

Environmentally sound
Forest operations are ecologically appropriate in their management and ensure that the harvesting of timber and non-timber products maintains the biodiversity, productivity and ecological processes of the forest.

Socially beneficial
Forest management helps both local people and society at large to share in its long-term benefits. Similarly, it creates strong incentives for local people to conserve forest resources and follow long-term management plans.

Economically successful
Forest operations need to be managed in a structured way to be sufficiently profitable. Financial profit must not be at the expense of forest resources, the ecosystem or affected communities.
